Program Fees

J-1 Fees

You may use the information below to calculate the program fees for your J-1 Teacher Program. Program Fees are paid up front prior to sponsorship application review by Teachers Council. The fees may be paid by any party (teacher, host school, attorney, etc.) unless otherwise noted.

Initial eligibility assessments are complimentary prior to engaging in the full application review, in order for you to make sure that you are initially qualified to enter the program. Passing the initial eligibility assessment does not guarantee sponsorship, which can only be granted after an extensive review process.

Additional Costs

The following are fees not paid directly to Teachers Council but will be costs incurred after the issuance of a DS-2019, paid to U.S. Government offices for the nonimmigrant visa appointment.

SEVIS I-901 FEE: $180.00

SEVIS is a web-based system for maintaining information on international nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors in the United States. All approved J-1 participants with an issued DS-2019 are required to complete a form I-901 and payment prior to their embassy appointment, and will be given instruction on how to do so. J-2 Dependents are automatically linked to the J-1 in SEVIS and therefore do not need to make a separate payment of the I-901.

DS-160: $160.00

The DS-160 enables each J-1 visitor and accompanying J-2 dependents to make an appointment at their home country’s U.S. embassy. Unlike with the SEVIS I-901 Fee, each J-2 applicant must fill out and make payment on separate DS-160 applications. Teachers Council will provide instruction for participants on how to complete this requirement upon program approval and issuance of the DS-2019.
